Not sure that my father would see a quality Danish knit sweater as a necessity for excursions on the open sea, but I can go there. S.N.S Herning have been doing things the right way since the 30's, and are now re-issuing many of their classic designs. Production is limited and each garment tag is signed by the artisan at the loom/helm. Available at Opening Ceremony (on sale) and via S.N.S direct.
Thanks for excavating this brand! Some of the Devold "blue marine" sweaters might provide an economy option while ones saves up for the zip-neck naval sweater.
ReplyDeleteAlso, just found a companion brand to St James, "Amor Lux," that makes very nice, new wool nautical sweater. Also a bit more on the economy of scale side of things...
The Armor Lux stuff is good,I have some t's (Japan) and a great fisherman's smock a friend picked up in Paris, the re-branding is a little scary but great quality garments for sure.

ReplyDeletegood analogy, i think it's been around almost just as long...I think Saint James is my first port of call however...their knits just get better with age.
ReplyDeletewhy jump ship, right!?! i have three st james "pont" style sweaters which have been in constant rotation for the last three years. plus--they actually figured out how to size their sweaters for women (nice trim fit).
