I spoke to my Father yesterday, prompting some nostalgia for my home town. I love the design of the floating triangular 'crates' used to house the accumulated catch of lobster prior to market dispatch (third photo). My Grandfather was fishing during this era, later enlisting my father, who later enlisted my older brother. The C0-op is still running, though the fishing fleet has diminished dramatically.

use triangular crates, as opposed to square. was there some sort of benefit? i really like this post
there's always a reason, a question for dad, maybe the triange wells are easier to haul up the boat rail, wharf etc.
the triangle shape means that the top pick part can be held by a rope without this one to "dance" along the side, as it would happen if it was a square. if it was a square, then the rope would slide to one of the corners, and fish would fall off the crate...
and as it happens most of the times, the practical side of a design, obliges the object to be beautifully original.
