The Great Koonaklaster

For someone who made and played beautiful but wordless music his whole career, John Fahey sure has a lot to say. His writings sound, offering the reader a generous narrative structure to compliment his recorded archive. Stable in house favorites, really beautiful, at times disturbingly heart breaking stories and recollections from acoustic America. Drag City book nook.

SD M.I.A

Some prick lifted my green version of this bag (in an unguarded moment) from the Rose Bowl this weekend, containing my camera, car keys and a few early morning finds. This rust version (the understudy) came from ebay some time back, along with a ziplock bag of half eaten trail mix for authenticity, note the different Sierra Designs font on the tag.

The Marble Index

In house UDT modification, losing some length, removing central rail, trimming down side rails and thinning the blade down to a more flexible taper. They now move with my ankles, thanks to Florian and PG for guidance. GG's UDT tweak sequence here. UDT's here.

Some nice loot found and documented in the field at an undisclosed location following an early morning EPA session at County Line. Pair of Danish lamps, 1960's, unmarked, teak & papercord/Lady Venetian, thinking Faye Dunaway circa Bonnie and Clyde/Leather hat = return of the desert rat.

Daily Grain

70 year-old Buddhist monk Hua Chi has been praying in the same spot at his temple in Tongren, China for over 20 years. His footprints, which are up to 1.2 inches deep in some areas, are the result of performing his prayers up to 3000 times a day. Now that he is 70, he says that he has greatly reduced his quantity of prayers to 1,000 times each day.
