Mixed Wizard

Two things snagging my mind from the weekend...the Navajo pin display on shrimpo jacket is a good sculpture~the Northwest Coast folk-core leather cap is high wizard gear...I'm almost there but the point to the hat is a sticking point (but it does have a salmon swimming through a portal split over two panels).

Box/Boats

Handmade family of wooden/painted boats with carry case from PCC this week. This is one of my favorite all time finds, so much love has gone into these things-the perfect balance of rudimentary craft/woodworking, practicality and personal project pride (PPP). The way everything is accommodated in the case-held in by canvas covered blocks and the way all the colors and construction of the boats compliment each other has been driving me a little nuts-something kinda Calder/Bauhaus/H.C Westerman about this thing.
*In house relatives here.

O=

Whittled bird found in the Northwoods WI- I'm drawn to pieces which use minimal descriptive information in the act of whittling to achieve the desired form...it could also be the measure of ones attention span or rudimentary skill~but this bird is singing O<.

In house relatives here...here and here.

Navajo sterling/turquoise Bic lighter case, 1970's-80's with Hopi Kachina doll figure, signed on base~ this thing is nuts in a Folkjokeopus kinda way, so carefully put together- in house relatives here and here.

Wizardy candlestick made from three bent & welded cattle brands, an oldee'...I love this thing for it's sculptural form and intersections, giving me the early David Smith's.

*You have to be careful with this kind of shit, and I try to be, try to reign myself in before I start being that guy who has old wooden farm implements hanging from the walls, curtains made from grain sacks and Gone Fishin' signs in the lou...but a little farm-core is ok.

Hand painted bowl, Mexico (Oaxoca?), mid century...in house relatives (and favorites) here.
~all found this morning on the way to the chicken farm.

Hand carved and painted shore bird decoy from the Rose Bowl this month, 1960's, a bunch I'm keeping my eye on by the one carver. In house relative here.
